Consider us jumping up and down on the couch with joy! Tom Cruise seems to be getting back into the groove of being a leading man and action star lately. Despite the critical misstep of The Mummy, most of Cruise's recent films have had positive reviews and done well at the box office.

Upcoming films in the Mission Impossible franchise show great promise given the success of Mission Impossible: Fallout and Cruise himself has several other films currently on the slate for the next few years. So, what DO we know about these upcoming films of his? Well, let's take a look at what we know about every single upcoming Tom Cruise movie.
4 Top Gun: Maverick (2020)
Time to turn up "Highway to the Danger Zone," because Maverick is back in the cockpit. The sequel to the beloved 1986 classic Top Gun is already rumored to be bigger than its predecessor. The original start date of July 12th, 2019 has already been pushed back due to "extensive visual effects and fight scenes" (we're sure having to directly compete with films like Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Lion King didn't help). The film has technically been in the works since 2002, and is just now gaining traction in production. Shooting began in mid-August, with scenes shot at San Diego, Lake Tahoe, and more. From what we know of the plot, it deals with the end of the fighter pilot era of aerial combat. Drones are on the rise, and as such flyboys like Maverick aren't necessary anymore.

The film stars Cruise and Val Kilmer returning as Iceman, as well as new actors to the franchise such as Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris. We also know that Miles Teller will be playing Goose's son, Bradley Bradshaw. So far none of the major cast has divulged much about their characters, making most theories speculative at best. Still, if the film proves to be even half as fun and exciting as the first one, then Top Gun: Maverick can be our wingman any day.
3 Mission: Impossible 7 (2021)
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to see the 7th installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise when it arrives in theatres. The film was announced in January 2019 alongside Mission: Impossible 8. Director Christopher McQuarrie is signed on to return for both films at the moment. The cast list has yet to be confirmed, with the exception of Cruise and now Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust. Simon Pegg has expressed interest in coming back to the franchise, but has not officially been recast as Benji.

We know next to nothing about the plot of the film so far. One can assume that it deals directly with the events of Mission: Impossible - Fallout in some capacity. Given Ferguson's casting confirmation of Ilsa Faust, it's not out of the question that her shadowy MI6 agent will have some bearing on the story. Whatever the plot turns out to be, there's a high bar that's been set when it comes to quality. With Fallout being the largest grossing Mission Impossible movie to date, there will be an expectation to keep topping themselves. We'll see if Cruise rises to the occasion, or if Ethan Hunt finally fails to outrun this problem.
2 Mission: Impossible 8 (2022)
When Mission: Impossible 7 was announced, it came with the double whammy that the next film would be coming out the very next year. Cruise will be returning as Hunt, and McQuarrie is signed on to direct. Beyond that, none of the cast has been announced, making this one even more of a mystery than its predecessor. Given that Cruise is currently filming Top Gun: Maverick, information on these films will be given primarily through casting notices for a good while.
